Home Region 1 Norfolk County

Norfolk CountyNorfolk County is a single tier Municipality located on the north shore of Lake Erie in Southwestern Ontario.  For your convenience we are listing the former towns and villages in the area.

Trails and Tours

Norfolk County has many hiking and walking opportunities, from the conservation areas to the famous Lynn Valley Trail. That’s where you’ll find interesting flora such as phlox, shagbark hickory, ferns, asters, cow parsnip, and Grass of Parnassus. The eight-kilometre Lynn Valley rail-trail offers splendid opportunities to view unique Carolinian plant life. The new Waterford Heritage Trail is a six-kilometre trail from Thompson Road at the edge of Waterford south to Townsend Concession 13, where it joins with the Sunrise Rotary Trail to Simcoe and on to Port Dover via the Lynn Valley Trail. The Waterford Heritage Trail features picturesque scenery and is ideal for walking, cycling, running and (in winter) cross country skiing.

More about Norfolk County

Norfolk County has three seasonal tourist information centres open from May holiday weekend through Labour Day weekend.

Visitor Services Assistants at the centres will answer questions from thousands of visitors to Norfolk County, referring them to tourism attractions, events, accommodations and amenities.

The centres are located at the Board of Trade office on Market Street, Port Dover, the visitor information booth on Bay Street, Port Rowan, and in the cabin in Wellington Park, Simcoe. Maps and brochures will also be available at the Delhi Tobacco Museum and the Old Town Hall in Waterford, although those locations will not be staffed with Visitor Services Assistants. The Ontario’s South Coast Tourism Van will also visit festivals and high-traffic tourist locations throughout the summer.

"Our Visitor Services staff offer genuine smiles and friendly answers to our tourists," said Norfolk County Mayor Dennis Travale. "When tourists bring more than $50 million in new dollars to our communities each year, this is an important service to have in place."

Over the last four years, Norfolk County’s Visitor Services staff members have answered more than 22,000 enquiries, helping as many as 45,000 tourists.

The Visitor Services program is funded and coordinated by Norfolk County’s Tourism & Economic Development office, with financial assistance from the Summer Experience Program of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism & Culture, the Canada Summer Job (HRDC) Program of the Government of Canada, and contributions from the Port Dover Board of Trade, Simcoe & District Chamber of Commerce, and the Long Point Country Chamber of Commerce.
