Tours and Trails

Whites Junction Trail - (Cycling & Walking) Look for an old steam engine chugging up to Main Street in Palmerston and you’ve found the White’s Junction Trail.  The White’s Junction Trail runs along the former CN rail line north of the Town of Palmerston. To access the trail follow the signs on Main Street Palmerston, near the L&M grocery store. In the first block, please make note of the wildlife and plants. If you look closely you can see Pileated woodpeckers, blue jays, opossums, herons, deer, hawks, and turtles. A rare patch of prairie grass is located at the junction. There are more unusual plants along the trail including flowering spurge, trout lilies, butterfly milkweed, wild bergamot and thimbleweed.

Harriston Greenway Trail - (Walking & Some Cycling*) offers outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy Minto’s natural scenery. The Trail links six community parks, former CN and CP rail lines, cemetery and bush properties all along the Maitland River. Visit the rustic gazebo in the IODE Park on John St., a unique gathering spot at the head of the West End Trails. Enjoy a picnic, a stroll along the river, or a shady walk through the bush.

* There are a couple of sections on the Greenway Trail that are not as cycling friendly.  That said it's well worth the tour anyway.
